Donating to the Cleveland Fire Department
First Responder Emergency Vehicle Campaign
In 2000, the Cleveland Fire Department dispatched our First Responders to nearly 100 emergency calls - accidents, illnesses and life-threatening injuries - throughout Cleveland, Centerville and Meeme. First Responders are the emergency medical service (EMS) personnel called to the scene to stabilize injuries and provide emergency care before medical transport arrives.
Critical to our providing fast and effective emergency care is our EMS first responder unit, the vehicle that brings EMS personnel, medical equipment, monitoring devices, and supplies quickly to the site. Due to the age of our previous vehicle, maintenance costs had increased to the point where it became necessary to replace the unit with a more reliable one.
In September, 2001 we took delivery of a new first responder vehicle. We purchased a 2000 Freightliner Chassis with a custom 16 foot box built by Marque to house our EMS unit.
We had a head start on the purchase due to a contribution from the Eugene Voigt Estate. In addition, the Cleveland State Bank assisted in this effort by matching all contributions received from the community on a dollar-for-dollar basis, up to $10,000. We have taken a loan out for all remaining costs.
Please invest in our community by making a tax-deductible contribution to the "First Responder Emergency Vehicle Fund". You can mail your contribution to:
